Here are 4 ways to make exercising a habit.

 

Create a Schedule

 

If you’re just starting out with your fitness journey, it’s important that you create a workout schedule. It’s all too easy to feel as if we don’t have the time to work out. By coming up with a routine ahead of time, you’re a lot less likely to find an excuse as to why you can’t make it to the gym or start a home workout.

 

You want to be realistic with your schedule. This will ensure that it’s something that you can keep up with regularly. Sure, sometimes things come up that we don’t expect – but try and get back on track as soon as possible. Factor in how often you want to work out, and sit down and find where you’ll have the time to fit it in.

 

Give Yourself Time

 

Seeing progress from your workouts takes time, and it’s crucial that you acknowledge this. So often, people lose their motivation after not seeing immediate results. Give yourself time when it comes to your fitness journey. Eventually, you will start to notice the changes.

 

A great way to keep track of your progress is to take pictures. This could be more inspirational for you than checking the number on the scale, which is oftentimes misleading. Take progress pictures weekly and try not to compare them until you’re at least a month out. Over time, you should be able to easily notice the changes happening with your body.

 

Do What You Enjoy

 

If you choose a workout that you don’t enjoy, you’re a lot less likely to remain consistent with it. Figure out what your goal is with working out and find exercises that will help you to accomplish that. You don’t have to run on the treadmill if you find it boring. Find another form of cardio instead like cycling or dancing.

 

Each day will look different for you. If you find that you’re starting to enjoy the gym less, it could be time to switch up your workout routine. Perhaps you could try home workouts, Pilates classes, or join a local climbing gym. Working out should be something that you find pleasure in doing.

 

Surround Yourself with Motivators

 

It can be hard to make it to the gym on some days – particularly when you’re first starting out. Surrounding yourself with motivators is an excellent way to help push you on the days you just don’t feel up to working out. Motivators could be your progress pictures, fitness social media accounts, and little notes you have for yourself.

 

Every time you find something that motivates you to workout, jot it down and keep it around you. This will come in handy for those days where you don’t want to get off the couch. This isn’t a fool-proof method, but it’s likely to work the majority of the time.
