Being your own boss and trying to make money online can be very rewarding, but it can also be a lot of work. When your career fate is in your own hands the pressure can be overwhelming because there are always bills to pay each and every month. If you have a family depending on you to be the breadwinner the level of stress is amplified.
So how can women deal with it?
The answer is easy, to find a balance between work, home, happiness and stress. I know that’s easier said than done, but it has to be done for the sake of your relationship, your sanity and your business. You can’t think straight if you’re tired and if you don’t re-energize your brain you won’t be able to function and that’s not good for your business.
Here are five ways to find a work life balance:
Delegate to trusted staff
Your business is your baby, but that doesn’t mean you have to do everything on your own. Sometimes the best thing you can do to grow your business and make money online is to delegate the work to someone you trust.
Inc.com says that delegating can be the key to success for businesses. ” When you grow, you have to know when to let go. You have to know when to delegate down so you can rise up. The inability to delegate properly is the main reason that executives fail. But managers often mistake delegation for passing off work. So they don’t do it–and they wind up wasting their time as well as the company’s time and resources.”
Give yourself a deadline each and every night. Shut off your phone, social media and computer by 8 p.m. – OK 10 p.m. at the latest. There’s nothing you can do at 10 p.m. that you can’t do at 7 a.m. the next morning. If you want to maintain your sanity you’ll shut off everything and take some alone time with friends and family – or just you.
I love to relax with a hot bubble bath before bed. It gives me quiet time to read my book (no electronics in the water) and it relaxes my tense muscles before bed. Find a relaxing remedy that works for you.
Make sure you sleep
You can’t make money online and run a business if you’re always exhausted. Small business owners do work longer than 9 to 5, but that doesn’t mean you have to work all night. Drink herbal tea, spray your pillow with lavender or rub peppermint oil on your temples, do whatever it takes to get a good night’s sleep.
The National Sleep Foundation says “For humans sleep is a vital indicator of overall health and well-being. Most of us know that getting a good night’s sleep is important, but too few of us actually make those eight or so hours between the sheets a priority.”
Take one night and one day off
If you make money online you know there’s always money to be made because the internet never sleeps. However you have to. When I first started my business Well Said Content whenever I wasn’t online optimizing the website, adding new content, posting a blog or sharing on social media all I could think about was how much money I was losing by trying to relax.
However now that I’m older I’ve learned that it is so important to find a balance between me and my work because working 24/7 isn’t healthy – and it’s certainly not fun. Besides there is no point in working hard to make money if you can’t enjoy it. If you need to force yourself to take a night off then plan a fun activity to make sure you walk away from your business…just for a day.
Spend your time where it counts
Work smarter, not harder. That’s what they say. Prioritizing is such a big part of being successful, especially if you make money online because there is so much to be done. The world of the internet is like the ocean, it’s full of possibilities and it seems endless. Your way to conquer it is to prioritize your goals and find ways to work more efficiently.
Make a list of everything you want to achieve in your business, then set the dates you want to achieve them by and focus your attention accordingly. There’s no point in trying to do it all because that just won’t happen.
