Are Facial Memberships Worth the Money?

Are Facial Memberships Worth It

Having beautiful, glowing, youthful-looking skin is so popular right now. And who can blame you; it certainly feels good to have clear skin. Plus, many people find it pleasurable to treat themselves to that spa time that makes their skin nice. As a result, spa memberships for facials are very popular. However are facial memberships worth it? Do you get your money’s worth?

What Is a Facial Membership?

A facial membership is typically a spa membership package emphasizing facials. They’re available through day spas. Some spas combine facial memberships with other services such as massages and mani/pedis. Typically, you pay a monthly fee for your facial membership. The fee depends upon the package that you choose. With that fee, you get a certain number of facials (and perhaps other services) per month. The idea is that the membership cost is lower than if you purchased that same number of facials one at a time throughout the month. So, in theory, you save money. But are facial memberships worth it?

Facial Membership Examples

For example, Massage Envy members can choose a facial membership. You sign up for a membership. Then you get one customized facial session per month with a licensed esthetician. If you can’t make it one month, your facial rolls over and you can still use it in a different month. Members also get discounts on add-on services, such as extra facials or a monthly massage.

Cheeks & Co provides another example. Located in Pasadena, California, they have 60-minute and 90-minute monthly memberships. They respectively cost $110 and $165 per month, which they report is a 20% discount off of their usual price. So are facial memberships worth it? If you were already going to go once a month to this spa anyway, then sure, it’s worth it. But what if you wouldn’t otherwise go monthly?

Should You Do Monthly Facials?

Most professionals will tell you that you need to do monthly facials to keep your skin healthy. If you believe in this, and you go to your spa monthly, then it’s worth the cost of a membership. After all, you’re already spending the money. You might as well get the discount for your loyalty.

However, if you don’t already go to the spa monthly, then you really have to think about if facial memberships are worth it. You’re committed to spending that money every month. Sure, you’ll get the facial. However, if you’re the kind of person who really only wants to get a professional facial every 3 or 4 months, then it’s not worth the cost. If you’re only going monthly because you buy the membership, then you’re wasting your money.

Alternatives to Facial Memberships

If you determine that it’s not worth the monthly cost to you, consider these alternatives:

  • Use Groupons, coupons, and promo codes to get the lowest price on spa facials.
  • Pay for spa facials with a rewards credit card. Get that cash back!
  • Use credit card rewards to buy yourself spa gift cards.
  • Do at-home spa treatments using affordable supplies. In particular, use DIY facial treatments.
